PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remarkably improve the board passing performance of a drum type flying cutter for preventing the leaping of a point when conveyed on an uneven surface between the table rollers, the insertion of the point into a gap between board passing parts by the self-weight deflection, the bending by the flying, and the generation of a loop of a strip relative to a tip board of the strip, an ordinary passing board and a passing board immediately after the cutting. SOLUTION: A drum-type flying cutter comprises cylindrical upper and lower drums 12a, 12b rotated and driven in synchronization with each other on a horizontal axis, upper and lower cutting blades 14 respectively mounted on the synchronous positions on the outer peripheral parts of the drums, upper and lower journal boxes 16a, 16b rotating and supporting the upper and lower drums, a cutting device for vertically driving only the upper journal box, and a guide device 20 arranged in adjacent to the lower drum, and a strip 1 is cut by rotating the upper and lower drums at a high speed in a state that an axis of the lower drum 12b is fixed.
