PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a winding machine for an elevator usable in an elevator having a suitable constitution for miniaturizing. SOLUTION: In a winding machine for an elevator provided with a motor 1, a traction sheave 21 to drive a car, and gear devices to transmit rotation driving force of the motor 1 to the traction sheave 21, the motor 1 and the traction sheave 21 are disposed in such a way that a rotation shaft 5 of the motor 1 and a sheave shaft of the traction sheave 21 are roughly in parallel to each other, and the motor 1 and the traction sheave 21 are disposed on the same side to gear devices 13, 40.
