PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the particle size of catalyst particles without reducing the breaking strength thereof by bringing an inorg. oxide and a specific compd. into contact with water in a contact state and baking the contact mixture to a carrier component and supporting zirconium halide on this carrier component. SOLUTION: An inorg. compd. using silicon oxide, aluminum oxide or a mixture of silicon oxide and aluminum oxide and a compd. represented by the general formula: Rm1Me (OR2)z-m are brought to a contact state and further brought into contact with water and the contact mixture is baked to obtain a carrier component and zirconium halide is supported on this carrier component. In the general formula, R1 and R2 are respectively a 1-12C hydrocarbon group, Me is Al, Si, Zr or Ti and z is the valency of Me and m is 0<=m<=z. By this constitution, a particle size can be increased without reducing the breaking strength of catalyst particles. |
