PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tray and a method of holding a semiconductor device in which an inclination of the semiconductor device can be restricted irrespective of the case where the semiconductor device and the tray are slipped out of place. SOLUTION: There is provided a rectangular storing recess 14 into which a substrate is inserted. Four corners of this storing recess are formed with engaging steps 15 to which four corners of the substrate are engaged and at the same time, auxiliary engaging steps 16 brought into contact with the substrate are formed by at least a pair of inner walls crossing at the storing recess at a substantial middle portion between both engaging steps.
