摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal composition having a high voltage retention at a high temperature range, a low threshold voltage and a high refractive index anisotropy by composing it of plural components each containing a compound selected from the group consisting of specific organic compounds. SOLUTION: This composition comprises, as a first component, at least one compound selected from the groups consisting of compounds of formulae I and II, and as a second component, at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds of formulae III-V. In the formulae, R1-5 are each a 1-10C alkyl; A1-6 are each C2H4 or a single bond, provided that either one of A3 and A4 is a single bond without fail; X1 and X3 are each F, OCF3 or OCF2H; and X2 and X4 are each H or F. The first component and the second component are preferably contained respectively in amounts of 20-70 wt.% and 30-80 wt.% based on the total weight of the liquid crystal composition. The liquid crystal composition is also composed of 20-70 wt.% of the first component, 30-80 wt.% of the second component and not more than 20 wt.% of at least one compound of formula VI as a third component. The composition is useful as a liquid crystal composition for an active matrix method.
