PURPOSE: A sensor element fabrication method is discloses, which can determine an oxygen content in exhaust gases from internal combustion engines. CONSTITUTION: In the method for producing a sensor element (10), specially for determining the oxygen content in exhaust gases from internal combustion engines, a composite material comprising at least one ceramic paste available in the form of a film (green film) is sintered to the sensor element (10) and the sharp edges (36) of the sensor element (10) are broken to improve thermal-shock resistance of the sensor element (10). The edges (36) of the sensor element (10) are broken before sintering occurs.
