Drive for ring rail on spinning machine uses motor with two pairs of windings that can be connected alternatively to variable frequency supply

The motor (20) driving the ring rail lifter motion has two pairs of stator windings (18a,18b) with the same number of poles. They can be connected through a switch (16) to a network (12) supplied by a converter (10) with variable frequency alternating current. An Independent claim is also included for operating the ring rail motion during the build so that the relatively slow motions are performed using a current frequency between 10 and at least 100 Hz at up to 400 V. Rapid motions at the beginning and end of the build are made using the other set of windings with a current frequency of over 300 Hz.
