The brake unit has a brake shoe moved by an actuator unit against a return spring (32) into friction contact with one skate roller (16). The actuator is a Bowden cable (30) with a core (28) in a flexible tube (42), and/or a lever unit, which is fastened to a point on e.g. a lever, at a distance above the skate frame (12), and connected with its other end to a manual operator. The brake shoe has a front and a rear brake surface, with a profile complementary to the skate rollers.
