Hollow, thermoplastic bodies, produced by blow-moulding, are reinforced by injectionmoulding supplementary material after the mould is closed about a preform to fill a cavity containing part of the preform defined by a mandrel and corresponding portions of the mould parts. The supplementary material, which may differ from that of the preform in its chemical composition and/or colour, is preferably injected during the inflation and/or cooling of the body. The apparatus may comprise a two- or multi-part blowing mould and a mandrel (13), through which the body may be blown, and an injection-moulding unit (20) connected via a conduit (17). there being an injection moulding cavity (23) defined as above, at the zone to be reinforced. The injection unit may be movable relative to the mould and is preferably provided with means to measure the material flow. The zone to be reinforced may be defined by projecting rings (26) to prevent through-flow of material. There may be two or more injection-moulding units operating on the same or several cavities to reinforce one or more zones of the body.
