<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a surfactant without using a corrosive compound in high yield by reacting a specific phosphonic acid ester with a specific polyoxyalkylene, and further reacting the reaction product under specific conditions. SOLUTION: A phosphonic acid ester of formula I (R1 is an aryl; R2 is an alkyl or an aryl) is made to react with a compound of formula II [R3 is a 1-6C alkyl; A is a hydrophilic polyoxyalkylene; (m) is the number of repeating fractions of A] or the like to produce an intermediate consisting of compound of formula III or the like, and the intermediate or the like is made to react with a hydroxy compound of R1OH to produce a precursor of a surfactant consisting of a compound of formula IV or the like. The precursor of a surfactant is oxidized with an oxidant to obtain a surfactant of poly(ethylene glycol)-α- methyl ether-ω-p-tert-octyldiphenyl phosphate expressed by formulae V to VII (R1 is an alkyl or an aryl; R3 is H or an alkyl) or the like.</p> |
