PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning inexpensively and efficiently a membrane. SOLUTION: In a reverse osmosis membrane module in which a solute and a solvent in a soln. are separated by feeding the soln. into a reverse osmosis membrane under a pressure being higher than the osmotic pressure, when the membrane is cleaned, the soln. is continuously fed into the membrane module under no pressure or in a range of a pressure being lower than the osmotic pressure, and a cleaning agent is added into the permeating liq. to remove contaminant on the membrane by utilizing suck back phenomenon.
