PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image displaying device having less variations with respect to time passage (lowering with time passage) of the luminance and a small rate of occurrence of luminance unevenness with time in an image display area. SOLUTION: An electron source substrate comprises a lower wiring 103 for selecting the Y-direction of an array of electron emitting elements on a glass substrate 101, an inter layer insulating film 104 for insulating the lower wiring 103, the electron emitting elements provided on the interlaminar insulating film 104, and an upper wiring 102 for selecting the X-direction of the array of the electron emitting elements. The upper wiring 102 is coated with a getter material, and one or more vacuum gauges are mounted on an envelope to monitor the vacuum inside. When the vacuum is higher than the prescribed vacuum, the upper wiring 102 is energized to activate the getter material, then out gas in the container is made to adsorb to maintain the vacuum in the envelope.
