PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device which makes switching between inputs of a Japanese graphic character code or a JIS code and an input of a normal character unnecessary and has operability improved. SOLUTION: In a handwriting input device for inputting information by handwriting, an input surface which is an input surface inputting the information and has plural areas, an input area judgement means 12 for judging the areas of the input surface to which the information is inputted, and a character recognition means 13 for recognizing the inputted information. The information includes a capital letter, the Japanese graphic character code and/or a JIS code and, when a numeral is inputted to any one of the plural input areas, the character recognition means 13 judges that it is an input of the Japanese graphic character code and/or the JIS code. Thus, it is possible to judge the number as the Japanese graphic character code and/or the JIS code and the numeral as the character in accordance with the input area. |
