PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily retrieve an image desired by a user by storing retrieval information for each video storage medium, and retrieving a moving image based on the information of a designated moving image from the retrieval information displayed by reading the stored retrieval information at the time of retrieving a moving image from the video storage medium. SOLUTION: Retrieval information in a retrieval system is prepared for each video storage medium, and at the time of mounting the video recording medium, the identification of the video recording medium is operated, and retrieval information is read from a storage device 3 corresponding to the video recording medium. Sample videos are read from the video recording medium by designating the range of extraction and the number of extraction. The extracted videos are reduced and displayed in a list by an outputting device 4. Thus, a video can be selected and reproduced from this list display, and the extraction of the sample videos can be operated by limiting the range of extraction by using the selected video as a start point.
