Nanosized noble metal catalyst and process for selective preparation of 1,4 butenediol

This invention relates a nanosized noble metal catalyst for selective preparation of aliphatic diols having a general formula: A/B Wherein A is a polymeric colloiding agent and B a noble metal and a process for the preparation of the said catalyst. The mole ratio of their composition (A/B) may be in the range of 1-100. The catalyst is used in the selective hydrogeneration of 1,4 butynediol to 1,4 butenediol.
