PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide emulsion free from the rise of fog and having high sensitivity by specifying pAg in a step for doping a silver halide emulsion with a metal. SOLUTION: A silver halide emulsion is doped with a metal in a step in which pAg is <=8.5 and pAg in a step after the doping is adjusted to >=9. Silver halide grains used are grains of silver bromide, silver chloride, silver iodide, silver chlorobromide, silver chloroiodide, silver iodobromide or silver chloroiodobromide. When the acceleration of developing and desilvering (bleaching, fixing and bleach fixing) steps is expected, silver halide grains having a high silver chloride content are desirable. When development is moderately inhibited, silver iodide is preferably contained. The silver halide grains preferably have a distribution or structure with respect to the halogen compsn. For example, core-shell type or double-layered structure type grains whose interiors and surface layers have different halogen compsns. are used.
