PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject cosmetic capable of suppressing tyrosinase activities increased by nitrogen monoxide or the like by heightening functions originally possessed by melanocytes in the interior of the skin, and useful for improvement of pigmentation or the like in the skin by adding a material capable of inducing the production of metallothionine by the melanocytes. SOLUTION: This cosmetic contains a material capable of inducing the production of metallothionine by the melanocytes, preferably in a proportion of 0.00001-10 wt.%. A skin preparation for external use is cited as the using form of the cosmetic and exemplified by an ointment, a cream, a lotion and a cataplasm. The cosmetic suppresses formation of melanin and is useful for the improvement of stain and drabness of the skin.
