DECOMPOSTION TREATMENT OF ORGANIC MATTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily decompose harmful org. matter in water. SOLUTION: Raw water containing an electrolyte is supplied to first electrolytic cells 2, 3 provided with an anode plate 5 and a cathode plate 6 through an ion permeable diaphragm 1. Only electrolytic water obtained from the cathode side 3 of the first electrolytic cell is electrolyzed on the anode side of a second electrolytic cell provided with an anode plate 5 and a cathode plate 6 through an ion permeable diaphragm 1 to form hydroxyl radicals. Electrolytic water containing hydroxyl radicals is added to water containing org. matter to allow hydroxyl radicals to act on the org. matter to decompose the org. matter. The org. matter may be an aromatic compd. or an aliphatic compd. The aromatic compd. is especially phenol such as p-tertiary butyl phenol or bisphenol A and the electrolyte is chloride.
