Reducing gases contg. mainly CO and H2 are produced by (a) subjecting a liq. hydrocarbon (e.g. extra-heavy fuel oil) to gasification, taking care to avoid soot formation; and (b) heating the resulting gas to 1700-2500 degrees C (pref. with a plasma torch, opt. after preheating by heat exchange) for injection in the heart of the blast furnace, e.g. through the principal tuyeres or auxiliary tuyeres situated in the vicinity thereof. If the gasification prod. contains excessive amts. of CO2 and H2O, it is pref. deoxidised with a combustible material before heating to the injection temp.
|
