<p>A starter for a fluorescent lamp comrises: a gas discharge tube with two external connections which are connected to two electrodes which are received in this gas discharge tube and at least one of which comprises a bimetallic strip, which bends in the direction of the other electrode when there is sufficient heating and can thus make electrically conducting contact therewith; a capacitor connected to said external connections; which starter is intended to form part of a collective electric circuit with the fluorescent lamp, which circuit comprises: two alternating current mains connections, the fluorescent lamp, the starter and a substantially reactive ballast, for instance a self-induction, which ballast is arranged in series between a mains connection and the lamp, which starter is connected in parallel to the lamp and which two mains connections are connected to respectively the ballast and a lamp electrode on the end of the lamp remote from the ballast; and has a feature that the capacitor has a value of a minimum of 5 nF.</p> |
