The cable separator has a retaining jaw (15), rotatably located in upper of the fixed handle (1). This is brought by the spring with the row of teeth of the rotating cutting blade, for meshing. A supply jaw (13) is provided, which is rotatably located on the moving handle (2). This is brought to meshing by the spring (14) with the row of teeth (5a) of the self rotating cutting blade (5). A switch switches a movement range of the movable handle between a first open setting, during the course of a cutting movement, and a second open setting during a course of a free movement. A release lever is movable on the fixed handle for pulling back the retaining jaw (15) and the supply jaw (13). This is synchronized with the row of teeth of the self rotating cutting blade, against the top part of the fixed handle, to rotate with the movable handle (2), and swivel in the second open setting, in order to lift the engagement of the retaining jaw and the supply jaw with the row of teeth of the self rotating cutting blade.
