<p>The present invention utilizes a unique distribution of polymeric facestock material and, optionally, adhesive material, through the thickness of composite construction which results in an increase of the facestock and allows the use of less label material while having a label with sufficient stiffness to be peel-plate dispensable. In one embodiment, the invention relates to a multilayer composite comprising a separation layer (63) of polymeric film having an upper surface and a lower surface, an upper (65) and a lower skin (61) layer of polymeric material are provided on the upper and lower surfaces of said separation layer (63), a stiffening layer (62, 64) is located between the separation (63) and each of said skin layers (61, 65) and wherein the stiffening layer (62, 64) comprises a polymeric film having a Young's Modulus that is greater than the Young's Modulus of the separation layer (63) and the skin layers (61, 65), and the lower skin layer (61) is provided with a substrate adhesive layer (66) joined thereto and, in turn, it is covered with a release liner (67). Further, a procedure is also described for improving the peel-plate dispensability of the label composite by maintaining the temperature of at least the leading edge of the label construction below about 20 degrees C as it passes over the peel-plate and the label separates from the release liner (67).</p> |
