PURPOSE: An install status judgement method is provided to judge a present install status of an optical disk driving apparatus using a distance between rising edge points of time of a pulse signal. CONSTITUTION: The install status judgement method comprises the steps of: adjusting a focusing distance of an inserted optical disk; detecting the beam amount reflected from the disk during adjusting the focusing distance; and judging an install state of an optical disk driving apparatus on the basis of a spaced distance between the detected beam amounts, wherein the spaced distance is a distance between time points when a peak value of the detected beam amount is detected. When the spaced distance is below a predetermined value, the install state of the optical disk driving apparatus is judged as a horizontal state. When the space distance is over the predetermined value, the install state of the optical disk driving apparatus is judged as a vertical state.
