PURPOSE: Ammonium nitrate is prepared using potassium dinitramide as a phase stabilizer which has a good smoke property and improves energy decrease. CONSTITUTION: Ammonium nitrate and potassium dinitramide are dissolved in a solvent such as water, dimethyl formamide and dimethyl sulfoxide together to give a saturated solution, followed by addition of a miscible solvent as a precipitating agent such as nitrile, ether, aromatic compound, halogenated hydrocarbon and their compound to recover the ammonium nitrate. Thus, 65.7 weight % of ammonium nitrate, 5.7 weight % of potassium dinitramide and 28.6 weight % of water are mixed to give a saturated aqueous solution, followed by addition of acetonitrile, and stirred for 1 hour to give the phase stabilized ammonium nitramide.
