PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive weight detecting device the sensitivity of which can be selected freely and which has a simple structure. SOLUTION: In the weight detecting device, a light shielding body 10 which is displaced in the vertical direction in accordance with a load in an interlocking way with a supporting body 6 is formed in a horizontal plane which is perpendicular to the vertical direction and a light emitting means 12a and a light receiving means 12b are set up on both sides of the body 10 in such a way that their optical axis makes a prescribed angle against the vertical direction. The distance from the center of rotation of a part interrupting the optical axis 12c changes in accordance with the position of the light shielding body 10 in the vertical direction. Consequently, when the shape of the part interrupting the optical axis 12c is changed in accordance with the radial distance from the center of rotation, the optical axis 12c interrupting time of the light shielding body 10 rotating at a fixed angular velocity changes in accordance with the load. Therefore, the sensitivity of the weight detecting device can be set arbitrarily by changing the shape of the light shielding body 10.
