PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable crushing and heating as well as drying of sludge of high viscosity or fibrous characteristics to be carried out. SOLUTION: The extremity end of a jet burner 1 directed in a lateral horizontal direction is connected in a tangential direction to the upper end of a cyclone 3 through a feeding cylinder 2. There is provided a sludge supplying device 5 in such a way that sludge 4 can be supplied to a position near the extremity end of the jet burner 1 within the feeding cylinder 2. There is provided a long inner cylinder 12 with its upper end being connected to a discharged gas outlet 7 at the central position of the top part of the cyclone 3. After the sludge 4 supplied from the sludge supplying device 5 is crushed at the core part of jet injection flow of combustion gas 6 generated at the jet burner 1, the sludge is fed to the cyclone 3, set on the circulating flow and dropped, and during this motion, the sludge is heated and dried with heat of the combustion gas 6 and then the sludge is recovered as crushed dried product 4a.
