PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a drastically rational system at a low cost while realizing the protection of a copyright by prohibiting the recording of a digital signal and the external output of an analog signal concerning the digital signal when the digital signal where information for a copy restriction is added is inputted. SOLUTION: A copy management information detecting part 105 judges the contents of copy management information which is detected from digital contents and supplies the judgement result (that is, copy possible or copy impossible) to a control part 111. When the contents of copy management information are judged to be copy impossible, the control part 111 gives a recording prohibiting signal to a signal processing part 107 and a recording and reproducing part 108. When the recording prohibiting signal is received, the recording reproducing part 108 temporarily stops a recording operation to a recording medium 109. By the control, the copyright of the digital contents is protected without adding a complicated copy management function and also a rational system configuration is realized at a low cost.
