An internal combustion engine having fuel injection with a protrusion (60) placed between a fuel injection nozzle (41) and a spark plug (24) in the combustion chamber. The protrusion (60) shields the core nose (44) of the spark plug (24), but not the gap (50) betweeen the center electrode and (46) ground electrode (48) of the spark plug (24). In this fashion, combustion is enhanced and carbon buildup on the porcelain body of the spark plug (24) is prevented, thereby lessening the likelihood of a malfunction by the spark plug (24). |
