A gear ring (Z1) is mounted on an extension of the crankshaft of the engine, which can rotate relative to the crankshaft. The gear ring may be either a spur gear ring with internal teeth or a bevel gear with inward facing teeth. A gear wheel (Z2) is mounted on the crank pin adjacent to the big end of the connecting rod. The gear (Z2) meshes with the ring gear (Z1) on the extension of the crankshaft and provides a reduction gearing to the output of the engine.
