The stapler has a staple magazine (5a), a staple ejector (6a), and a stapler shoe (7a). These components are arranged, so that with a pivot movement of the operator arm (3a) a staple (4) held by the ejector is inserted into the paper sheet with the staple back (4') at right angles to the direction of the pivot axis (9a) of the pivot bearing (8a), which connects arm and stapler foot. The ejector is associated with a magazine section (12a'') extending parallel to the pivot axis.
