<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optically resolve the subject compound useful as a synthetic raw material for 4-mercapto-2-pyrrolidone of a medicine raw material, etc., by treating a 3-hydroxy-4-mercaptobutyric acid derivative with a hydrolase in the presence of an acetic ester. SOLUTION: A 3-hydroxy-4-mercaptobutyric acid derivative of formula I [R1 is a mercapto-protecting group; R2 is nitrile, CONH2 or a COOR (R is a carboxyl-protecting group)] [e.g. 3-hydroxy-4-(4-methoxybenzylthio)butyric acid ester, etc.], is treated with a hydrolase (e.g. lipase, etc.), in the presence of an acetic ester (e.g. vinyl acetate, etc.), and a compound of formula II and a compound of formula III are separated from the reaction solution, respectively to subject the 3-hydroxy-4-mercaptobutyric acid derivative to optical resolution. The optically active 3-hydroxy-4-mercaptobutyric acid derivative is useful as a synthetic intermediate for 4-mercapto-2-pyrrolidone being a raw material for producing an antibiotic.</p> |
