PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a checking method and a checking apparatus for grasping dimension and shape of expansion of the gas pressure welded part, and grasping the decentered distance of the reinforcing bar center shaft, and also easily, efficiently, and accurately judging them good or bad, at the time of checking the appearance of the reinforcing bar gas pressure welded part. SOLUTION: A large number of thin bars 7 arranged in a parallel condition are respectively held by a holding member 8 displaceably in the axial line direction for constituting a blocking tool 3. The tips of the thin bars 7 of the blocking tool 3 are brought into contact with a reinforcing bar gas press welded part 1, and the thin bars 7 are displaced in the axial direction for blocking the shape of the pressure welded part 1. An appearance checking objective portion is checked to be good or bad from the blocked shape S1 with a judging plate 4 having the good/bad judging reference display.
