Apparatus for removing the cover 2 of a converter 1 and for relining said converter comprises tracks 8 flanking the converter and a U-shaped car 12 lowered thereon by a crane 13, a semi-circular platform 15, Fig. 3 (not shown), attachable to and forming with the limbs of the car a working platform, a U-shaped carrying frame 17, Fig. 6 (not shown), attachable to the car to receive the removed cover, and a relining frame 22, 23, Fig. 7, also attachable to the car. In operation, the car is moved up to the converter, platform 15 is attached, bolts 3 holding the cover are released and the latter is raised on jacks, Fig. 5 (not shown). The car is drawn back from the converter to receive carrying frame 17, is then returned and the cover is lowered on to the frame. The car is again withdrawn, the frame 17 with the converter cover being lifted off and replaced by relining frame 22, 23 on tracks 24 of which is mounted means 25 for lifting and handling refractory 26 used in relining the cover. |
