PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the contour of a character or the like and paired dots in the peripheral area of the contour in the image data processing unit, where image quality is enhanced by correcting a jaggy contour of image data expanded in a bit map. SOLUTION: This processing unit is provided with an edge peripheral part discrimination means 78, that discriminates whether each black dot is a black dot placed at the right end or at the left end in a main scanning direction or other black dot and discriminates whether each white dot is a white dot placed at the right of the black dot or at the left of the black dot in the main scanning direction, in addition to a window 73 that extracts data of each dot in a prescribed area around an object dot, a pattern recognition section 74 that discriminates the shape of lines segments of a border between a black dot area and a white dot area of the extracted image data to generate code information consisting of plural of bits denoting a characteristic of the shape of the line segments, and a memory block 75 that reads and outputs correction data by using the code information as an address. |
