PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact self-ballasted fluorescent lamp that has high adaptability to a common bulb appliance and can realize luminance equivalent to a common 60 W bulb with consumption power lower than a conventional one. SOLUTION: This compact self-ballasted fluorescent tube 5 wherein an amalgam 6 and a predetermined noble gas are enclosed, and an electronic igniting circuit 4 to ignite the fluorescent tube 5 are received in an envelope 3 comprising a light transmissive globe 1 and a case 2, and the outside diameter and the total length of the globe 1, the inside diameter of the fluorescent tube 5 and the distance between its electrodes are set to 55-65 mm, 65-80 mm, 7-11 mm and 200-280 mm, respectively.
