PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens for a compact camera wherein a wide angle is achieved with a simple method of two group type unchanged, and further magnification is increased. SOLUTION: A zoom lens which is configured of a 1st lens group with a positive focal length and a 2nd lens group with a negative focal length sequentially from the object side, and varies in magnification by varying a distance between the 1st, and 2nd lens groups, has a diaphragm A arranged behind the 1st lens group and also a fixed diaphragm F further behind it, and the fixed aperture stop F is moved with the 1st lens group in one body at the time of zooming, while it is separated from the 1st lens group and fixed at the time of focusing and satisfies 0.03<dx<fS<0.15, where dx is the distance from the back face of the 1st lens group up to the fixed diaphragm, and fS is the focal length of the entire system on the short focal length side.
