PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry a medium at a fixed speed suitable for data processing by automatically forming a carry-in gap suitable for the carriage of the medium while interlocking the carry-in gap of an interposing part at the following stage in the carrying direction with the carry-in action of the medium. SOLUTION: When carrying a magnetic card 14 into a gap between a front roller R1 and a front idler roller R3, while using the front idler roller R3 supported pivotally on a main body 12 of a card reader as a reference, the upside front roller R1 is a little moved and displaced upward correspondingly to the thickness of the card. At such a time, while using a gear G6 on a front roller rotary shaft as a reference, the entire gears G5 and G4 are moved and displaced upward together with a decantation lever 20, a carry-in gap 23 vertical between a rear roller R2 and a rear idler roller R4 is enlarged on the following stage side so that the magnetic card 14 is carried at a fixed speed while relaxing its rushing shock and the rear roller R2 temporarily evacuated upward is returned to the original position by giving the pressing action of a return spring 22 to the decantation lever 20 later. Therefore, the magnetic card 14 is stably carried while being interposed by the respective rollers R1-R4.
