PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent current leakages and dielectric breakdowns, to miniaturize a scanner for original illumination, and to miniaturize a device as a whole. SOLUTION: A lighting-on circuit 12 sets one of output voltages to a high voltage and the other to a low voltage (for example, fixed to a GND), then respective voltages are impressed to external electrodes 3 and 4 of a lamp 8. The external electrode 3 closer to a housing holding the lamp 8 between the external electrodes 3 and 4 is set to a low voltage. Thus, a metallic housing 17 can be arranged close to or nearby to the external electrode 3 through an insulating material.
