PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain interpolation quantity with high accuracy by determining the interpolation quantity using color components of adjacent pixels with the same color which are sorted out in 'a group of pixels with small values of color components', when values of color components of an interpolated pixel fall below the values of color components of the surrounding pixels with different colors. SOLUTION: Color gradation in the vertical direction is calculated by using values of color components of two pixels which are adjacent in the vertical direction of a selected interpolated image and color gradation in the horizontal direction is calculated by using values of color components of two pixels which are adjacent in the horizontal direction by an image processing part 11. When an absolute value of an evaluated value of a degree of similarity is judged to fall below a threshold value, an average value of the values of color components of four pixels which are adjacent in the vertical and horizontal directions of the interpolated pixel is defined as the interpolation quantity by the image processing part 11. Namely, the interpolation quantity is determined by using the color components of the adjacent pixels with the same color which are sorted out in 'a group of pixels with large values of color components' when the values of color components of the interpolated pixel exceed the values of color components of the surrounding pixels with different colors and the interpolation quantity is determined by using the color components of the adjacent pixels with the same color in 'the group of pixels with small values of color components' when the value of color components of the interpolated pixel falls below the value of color components of the surrounding pixels with different colors.
