The system employs a tracking channel used by a mobile station (101) and a base station (102) for reciprocal antenna direction tracking. This uses a narrow beam signal and a switching arrangement (104) preferably being also provided to change the tracking channel. The base station transmitter includes a controller (103) to control the direction of a transmitted beam, and the receiver of the mobile station is able to control its direction of optimum reception.
