PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a bow side shaft sealing device, and thereby reduce its costs. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a casing 61 mounted to the bulk- head of a hull, a seal ring 63 made of elastomer, and disposed to its inner circumferential space, and with a mating ring 64 at the end part in the bow side of the casing 61. The mating ring 64 is divided into two in the circumferential direction, and its divided themselves are connected together with bolts in fluid sealing manner. The seal ring 63 is fixed to the outer circumferential surface of a propeller shaft 3 in a closely fitted shape, and an oil lubricating function is made effective by letting the inner circumferential seal lip 632a formed in the sliding brim part 632 of the seal ring be closely brought into contact with the stern side end face of the mating ring 64 so as to be slid. Since the device dispenses with the mounting of a sleeve liner or a stationary ring for fixing the sleeve liner over the circumference of the propeller shaft 3, part items can be reduced in number, and its structure can thereby be simplified, so that mounting length L in the axial direction can be remarkably shortened as compared with conventional ones.
