<p>A pipe sealing gasket (45) is shown which is designed to be received within a groove (43) provided within a socket end (47) of a thermoplastic pipe. The gasket (45) has a ring shaped body of an elastomeric material and includes a metal reinforcing band (55). The metal reinforcing band (55) has an angular profile, when viewed in cross section, with an apex (79) which is embedded within the gasket body but lies in close proximity to an exterior surface (85) of the gasket (45). The apex (79) provides a reinforced contact point during belling operatins but is isolated from surrounding liquids passing through a pipe joint.</p> |
