Production of an ointment for protecting the skin comprises extracting woad (Isatis tinctoria) leaves with a combination of a carrier emulsion and woad oil. Production of an ointment for protecting the skin comprises: (a) cleaning and predrying freshly harvested woad leaves; (b) liquefying a carrier emulsion by warming; (c) adding 45 parts by volume (pbv) of the woad leaves to 50 pbv of the emulsion; (d) boiling the mixture; (e) adding 5 pbv of pure woad oil; (f) boiling the mixture for 20 minutes; (g) pressing and sieving the mixture; (h) filling containers with the product; and (i) cooling and sealing the containers.
