An aperture grille (15) for a cathode ray tube includes a frame (76) having cutout portions (78, 80). The aperture grille further includes a color screening electrode (33) having a plurality of grille tapes (66) which are held in tension in the frame (76) causing stress in associated regions of the frame. The cutout portions (78, 80) are positioned adjacent the regions so as to reduce the stress level.
