PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recombinant protein useful for making a stress resistant plant having resistance to dryness, coldness or salt by encoding a protein having a specific amino acid sequence. SOLUTION: This recombinant protein is (A) a protein having the amino acids sequence of formula I or II, or is (B) a protein (except CBF1 protein) including up to a certain integer number of amino acid alterations as compared to the above sequence which are selected from a group consisting of at least one amino acid deletion, substitution or addition, and controlling the transcription of genes located in a downstream position of a stress response element. It is pref. to produce the protein by incubating a transformant including a recombinant vector having a transcription factor gene encoding the protein in culture medium and by collecting a protein controlling the transcription of genes located in a downstream position of a stress response element or activating the transcription of genes located in a downstream position of DRE.
