PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect thickness of a sheet by preventing foreign substances such as rubbish, dust, and ink from adhering to a roller. SOLUTION: A sheet thickness detecting device provided with a stationary reference roller 13, and a displaceable movable roller 18 arranged so as to face the reference roller 13 with a sheet conveyance path 11 in between. And from a displacement amount of the movable roller 18, a thickness of a sheet which passes between the reference roller 13 and the movable roller 18 is detected. Silicon oil supplying means 32 and 34 are provided so as to supply silicon oil to outer peripheral surfaces of the reference roller 13 and the movable roller 18.
