PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for growing a crystal, suitable for crystallizing biopolymers such as proteins. SOLUTION: This device 40 for growing a crystal involves a solid element 42 having a region 42a with valence electrons controlled so as to control the concentration of positive holes or electrons on the surface of a solution 43 containing a polymeric compound according to the circumstance of the solution, a pair of counter electrodes 44a, 44b located so as to sandwich the space above the region 42a, and electrical insulation materials 46a, 46b supporting the counter electrodes 44a and 44b, respectively; wherein the region 42a is an impurity region formed on a silicon semiconductor substrate. The other objective method for growing a crystal comprises applying an electric field via the counter electrodes 44a, 44b to the solution 43 to effect formation of the aimed polymeric compound's crystal from the solution 43 under an electric condition brought to the surface of the region 42a.
