PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply an ink film in an orifice uniformly to the periphery thereof by wiping an orifice plate while ejecting ink from the orifice through an ink ejecting means and then performing only wiping. SOLUTION: Residual ink 4 adhering to a recess 2 in front of the orifice 3 in an orifice plate 1 is wiped off with a wiping material 20 made of a material generating no paper powder, e.g. nonwoven fabric. The residual ink 4 is wiped off while ejecting ink from the orifice 3 by driving an ink ejecting means. Furthermore, wiping is performed without ejecting ink and an ink drop is ejected from the orifice 3 by driving the ink ejecting means under a state where an uniform ink film 4a is applied to the periphery of the recess 2.
