PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eye position detector which can always detect reference positions of eyes necessary for the detection of a dozing and looking-aside of a car driver and the control of a vehicle. SOLUTION: The eye position detector is provided with an eye position detection means CL2 which processes an image data of a face image to be inputted from an image input means CL1 for inputting the face image from an image pickup device such as CCD camera to detect the position of eyes, an eye position sampling/memory means CL3 to input a position data obtained form the eye position detection means CL2 for a specified time length and an eye reference position determining means CL4 which removes an eye position data generated attributed to vertical vibration caused during the running of the vehicle from the eye position data inputted from the eye position sampling/ memory means CL3 when reference positions of eyes is determined to determine the eye reference positions.
