PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strontium aluminate luminous body which shows a rich multi-color property and a greatly improved, chemically stable high-brightness and long-afterglow. SOLUTION: A luminous body having a high brightness contains a strontium aluminate mother crystal belonging to the monoclinic system or the orthorhombic system which generally has the formula: (Sr1-mEum)2Al6O11 or (Sr1-m-kEumDyk)2Al6O11 (wherein m and k are each a value within the range of 0<=m<=0.1, 0<k<0.1).
